Under Rotary International's rules the summer exchange is at least three plus three weeks – about three weeks in Sweden and three weeks in another country, starting around Midsummer.
The application period for the 2026 exchange year opens on 1 November 2025 and runs until 15 March 2026.
Preparations
Once you’ve decided to apply, you must contact a Rotary club near where you live yourself. The club becomes your host club in Sweden from now until the exchange is completed. Representatives from the club visit you and your family during the application process and oversee the period when your exchange partner stays with you. Your Swedish host club does not normally arrange its own activities, but you may be invited to a club meeting.
Don’t have an established contact with Rotary? Turn to your district chair or to our office.
Registration
Once you’re in contact with a Rotary club, you register for your application by filling in the registration form for Rotary’s Summer Exchange 2026 and paying the registration fee of SEK 500 to Swish 123 628 33 94. Registration is compulsory and should be submitted as soon as possible, so that we can start working on your country choices.
So fill in the registration form and pay the registration fee before you start the application form.
Registrations received after 15 March 2026 can only be processed to a limited extent. If you're late, there is some scope to work on the application during April 2026, by agreement with the RU office.
The countries listed on the registration form are the ones we normally run summer exchanges with. You can also request a particular country – in that case we look into the possibilities, but without any guarantee. If you want to apply for a country outside Europe or the countries listed, you must contact the RU office. It is not possible to apply for a summer exchange in England, Scotland, Wales or Ireland.
You must name at least five country choices and thereby accept an exchange with any of these countries – so think carefully about which countries you choose. Complete applications take priority and are processed in order of arrival. If you want to go to popular countries such as France or the USA/Canada, it’s important that the application comes in as soon as possible.
